These homemade Christmas ornaments or coasters are quick and easy Christmas craft. They are perfect for a party or as a hostess gift. They also make fun decorations. You can hang them in windows or string them together to make a garland. You can add a ribbon to make ornaments or make a felt tree for them to stick to.
Materials for 1 set as shown
Chalk or chalk pencil to trace on the black felt
Felt 9″ x 12″ sheets (1 stiffened black, 1 orange, 1 stiffened red, 1 red, 1 white, 1 stiffened peach/ivory/pink, 1 stiffened dark brown, 1 lighter brown, 1 stiffened white)
Spray Fabric Fusion
Download, print and cut out the pattern:
Trace the cutouts on the felt. For the smaller pieces, I found it easier to tape the pieces to the felt and cut around them.
Spray a light coat of the fabric fusion on the back of one of the pieces. I place it on an piece of card stock to spray so I don’t make a mess. I tried glue. Many types of glue including felt glue. It just didn’t work. Also, I tried two layers of soft felt, two layers of stiffened felt and one of each. All worked but I liked the combo of one of each so used the stiffened for the backs and the soft for the top pieces.
Place the sprayed piece of felt on the bottom piece, cover with a cloth and press. Follow the directions on the spray you have. When they are done, you can trim them a little if you want to clean up the edges.
Draw on the eyes for Santa, the reindeer and the penguin using a sharpie. Draw on a mouth for Santa and the snowman as shown in the pattern. If you are using these as ornaments, you could add some googly eyes instead.
If you have little ones, a felt tree makes a great activity. I just cut this out of felt and taped it to the wall. The felt ornaments stick right to it!
That’s it! If you like these, please check out my Halloween coasters.
