EverSewn Sparrow Sewing Machine Review

SPARROW25

We have a very active classroom at Crosscut Sewing Co.! Over the last year we have held hundreds of classes with students of all ages. The majority of our students, both young and old are beginners. When introducing students to sewing, I want it to be fun and not frustrating. My heart sinks when I hear that someone went to a big box store and bought a $99 machine. I know that they potentially have hours of jammed machines, threading issues, tension issues and frustration ahead of them. Considering that a machine repair or service visit will average around $100, it really isn’t a bargain.

EverSewn Sewing Machine Review

That’s why I was very selective when deciding which brand and type of sewing machines both to use in the classroom and to carry in the shop. I had heard about EverSewn sewing machines and had a chance to test them at Quilt Market. They seemed perfect for the shop. They are easy to use and very well built. After a over a year of being used for hours a day in the classroom, I haven’t had any issues at all with them. They let sewers focus on sewing and not troubleshooting or fixing jams.

They have exceeded my expectations and I feel very confident selling them to sewers and standing behind them. We carry the Sparrow series from EverSewn. The have 4 machines in this line, the 15, 20, 25, and 30. This range is perfect and there is a machine for every sewer. Here is a little bit about each machine and my thoughts on selecting the right one.

The EverSewn Sparrow 15

The EverSewn Sparrow 15 is a mechanical model without computer control. The stitch package features 32 stitches including a buttonhole with a maximum stitch width of 5mm. The two knobs on the front of the machine and the wheel on top can be used to set thread tension or stitch length, as well as to select stitches. The manual needle threader and the thread cutter help you sew efficiently. Four presser feet (soles) come standard with the EverSewn Sparrow 15.

Included Feet: zigzag foot, zipper foot, buttonhole foot with slide, button-sew-on foot

MSRP – $189.99  Crosscut Sewing Co. – $149.99

This machine is great for anyone who wants a basic machine. It is perfect to keep around the house to make alterations, hem some curtains, repair items etc. It is also a great backup or travel machine for classes and retreats because it is reasonably priced and only 13lbs. I don’t recommend this machine for younger sewers or those who really plan to sew a lot because it doesn’t have speed control, a needle up/down button or a drop in bobbin.

The EverSewn Sparrow 20

The EverSewn Sparrow 20 is a computerized model for ambitious sewers. The stitch package includes 80 stitches with a generous maximum stitch width of 7 mm and 15 needle positions. The practical start/stop function lets you control the stitching process without using the foot pedal. The needle position up/down function allows you to specify the needle position at end of a row of stitching – a big advantage when stitching corners. In addition, the sewing speed can be adjusted according to the fabric or the difficulty of the detail being sewn. The EverSewn Sparrow 20 includes a standard seven presser feet (soles).

Included Feet: zigzag foot, zipper foot, buttonhole foot with slide, overlock foot, blindstitch foot, embroidery foot, button-sew-on foot

MSRP – $349.99  Crosscut Sewing Co. – $279.99

This machine is perfect for a new sewer! It is easy to thread and to use. It is a solid, sturdy machine that will last, so it is worth the investment. The speed control and needle position button make it easier to teach a young sewer as well. There are lots of decorative stitches for embellishing projects. For anyone who really wants to get into sewing, this is a great machine. It will sew over lots of layers and different types of fabrics, so it is great for craft sewing, bags, home decor, quilting or garment sewing.

The EverSewn Sparrow 25

The computer-controlled EverSewn Sparrow 25 is the top model in this series. The Sparrow 25 boasts 197 stitch patterns in total, including 1 alphabet, 7 buttonholes, and 1 eyelet stitch. Decorative stitches can be set up to a width of 7 mm, as desired. The memory function allows individual stitch combinations to be saved. In addition to features such as the slide speed control, start/stop function and needle stop up/down, the EverSewn Sparrow 25 also has a bright sewing light. Seven presser feet (soles) come standard with this model.

This machine has all of the features of the 20 plus a few more. It has a alphabet, which means it will stitch letters and numbers. I love the screen on this model because you can see your selected stitch, stitch length, stitch width and suggested presser foot all in one screen. This makes it really easy to adjust your stitches. This machine is perfect for anyone who finds that they are sewing quite a bit. This may be a good upgrade for someone who bought or inherited a sewing machine that they have been using but not really loving.

The EverSewn Sparrow 30

The computer-controlled EverSewn Sparrow 30 is the newest machine in this series. The Sparrow 30 boasts 310 stitch patterns in total, including 32 utility, 84 decorative, and 2 full alphabets. Decorative stitches can be set up to a width of 7 mm, as desired. The memory function allows individual stitch combinations to be saved. With the push of a button, the Sparrow 30 cuts your thread automatically. In addition to features such as adjustable presser foot pressure, sewing speed control, start/stop function and needle stop up/down, the EverSewn Sparrow 30 also includes seven standard presser feet (soles) and an extension table.

Included Feet: zigzag foot, zipper foot, buttonhole foot with slide, overlock foot, blindstitch foot, embroidery foot, button-sew-on foot

This is really a dream machine. I have been using this machine personally and have used it for garments, accessories and all types of projects. It has really exceeded my expectations. What I love about this machine is the way it quilts. I have sewn on machines that cost 10x as much as this machine and I like this one better. I use a walking foot (sold separately) and the extension table that comes with the machine and I am amazed at the quality and consistency or the stitches when quilting. The automatic thread cutter speeds up sewing. This machine is perfect for anyone who is looking for an upgrade. With all of the bells and whistles, this machine will impress any sewer.
